The Minnesota School of Business Moorhead Campus helped raise awareness on campus and in the community during Domestic Violence Awareness Month by passing a “purple purse” around campus to benefit the YWCA Cass-Clay.

Domestic Violence affects one in four women in their life and strikes more than 145 times each hour in the U.S. To raise awareness, throughout the month of October, purple purses carrying domestic violence information were given to local YWCA’s, government officials, celebrities, media and domestic violence leaders for them to pass along among their friends and family. Each time a YWCA purple purse is passed and registered online at PurplePurse.com, the Allstate Foundation donates $10 back to that local YWCA.

“It is because of wonderful partners like Minnesota School of Business that we continue our important work of eliminating racism and empowering women and children,” YWCA Executive Director, Erin Prochnow said.

The campus helped raise over $500 for the YWCA Cass-Clay in one day, with a total of over $15,000 from the community.

“I am glad our campus could play a role in this campaign and raise much needed funds for the awareness for the YWCA,” Librarian Krista Jacobson said. “It helps all of us remember how important the mission of that organization is.”

Minnesota School of Business-Moorhead also recently helped sponsor the YWCA Chocolate Fantasy fundraiser and provided over 30 volunteers for the event. This fundraiser brings in thousands of people from the Fargo-Moorhead community to enjoy various types of chocolate treats and bid on silent auction items to benefit the YWCA shelter for women and children.
